How to ask a good question

Good questions get good answers. When posting opens, here's what helps:

• Search first. Your question may already have an answer. Try the search.
• Pick the right category and add a neighborhood tag if location matters.
• Write a specific title. "Permit needed to replace a water heater in Leucadia?" beats "Help!!"
• Give context. What you've tried, your timeline and any constraints such as budget or accessibility.
• Keep it private. Leave out your address, phone number and other personal details.
• Close the loop. Mark the answer that worked so the next person can find it.
